Welcome to the WOM Project (Cambodia and Mekong Delta) website. Waterfilter Outreach Ministry Project

The purpose here is to inform visitors of the facts and the plight of the many poor people in these areas who do not have clean drinking and cooking water for themselves, their families, and their communities.

People there having to drink dirty water, or else die, (what choice is that?) is not good enough.

With an average income of around $60 a month, ($2/day) these dear people are not able to help provide themselves with clean, safe water provisions.

As a result,  1 in 5 children under 5 suffer and die from water borne diseases.

UNICEF reports two thirds, (32.9%) of the rural population in Cambodia have no access to clean water.  (2012)

However,  in sharing these details we do not want to throw our hands up in the air in dismay and think we are unable to do anything about this dreadful situation.

In fact, there are several very simple and low-cost solutions to address these issues.

Some of these low-cost solutions involve sand&gravel water filters, ceramic jar water filters, even filling used plastic bottles with water and exposing these to direct UV sunlight during the day to kill off harmful bacteria. Then there are larger and much more expensive filter systems that provide water for a community. Many Projects are costly to implement and maintain, requiring ongoing funding and costly organization structures and overheads.

However, we have recently sourced an innovative and very economical water filter system using modern technology that uses micro-fine filters, which can be used over and over for many years, and able to filter over  1 million gallons of dirty water and making this safe and clean to drink.

Whilst it is great to address health (life and death) issues and come up with wonderful solutions and provide clean, safe drinking water, there is also the issue of what happens after we help provide clean water? Do we just set them up and walk away or do we have more to offer? The answer is yes. “Freely we have received, freely we give”.

Our goal is to provide an economical water filter to persons who in turn not only provide enough clean water for themselves and their family, but will also be able to provide clean water for several other families to bless them with. This method makes our filter systems an highly effective way to bless many families and even communities. A method that can be easily replicated.

But, is this enough? No. We must also share the love and grace of God, and encourage people to to receive the free Gift of an eternal and a blessed life through Jesus, as He is the only Person who can, and has provided that. And this is where the real miracle of blessing takes place. People will want a water filter to bless many others with free, clean water. How good is that?

‘Saving lives – saving Souls’.

Please read on and discover how we can alleviate suffering from diarrhea, parasites, giardia, bacteria, and a range of other pests and health hazards . . . . . .

Background

Water situation in Cambodia

Approximately 4 million people out of the total population in Cambodia lack access to safe water. About 25 percent of the population has access to safe drinking water. The number drops below 10 percent when rivers and ponds dry up.

6.3 million Cambodians lack access to safe water: UNICEF. Some 3.9 million of those without access to safe drinking water in Cambodia are poor and live in rural areas. Without safe water and adequate sanitation and hygiene, children (41 per cent of the population) are especially vulnerable to water-borne diseases.

This costs lives and money.

Diarrhoea is second leading cause of death for children under the age of five in Cambodia, while vitamin and mineral deficiencies due to diarrhea results in an annual loss of US$146 million to Cambodia’s GDP. “ (Source UNICEF)

Rural Cambodians often bath in and drink water that is also used by animals. Water-born diseases such as dysentery are relatively common. In one survey, 82 percent of the children in Kampot Province suffer from parasitic illnesses. Many have chronic diarrhea directly linked to drinking contaminated water.

Every time it rains, the water stagnates in the area, which creates saturated unstable soils, and attracts unwanted living things such as snakes and mosquitoes.

In a country like Cambodia, the main source of any villager’s drinking water will come from rain fall. Water is collected in huge cement structures which store it for a long period of time. However, this creates unsafe environment parasites, and can also be the source of mosquito reproduction.

Solutions

OUR ECONOMICAL SOLUTIONS PROGRAM

New Technology WOM Hollow Fibre UF filter:

  • 0.1 – 0.01micron filtration precision, removal rate for all bacteria is more than 99.999%, such as salmonella, E. coli, vibrio cholerae, salmonella typhi, and all protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium, etc.
  • Does not need electricity, uses gravity or high pressure
  • It can be used repeatedly, while the filter is blocked and gets smaller flow rate, flow rate can be recovered by backwashing.
  • Portable size and easy to carry, popular used for outdoor camping, hiking, emergency rescue, survival and so on.

THE BENEFITS:

  • Easy, 5-10 minutes installation for fast access to clean, safe, filtered water
  • Can be installed by anyone with some basic skills.
  • WOM Filter is useable for over 1 million gallons (4500 liters) of clean filtered water
  • When the output flow reduces the WOM Filter can be back-flushed indefinitely
  • Multiple WOM Filters can be plugged into a large plastic food-grade drum for large output
  • WOM Filters dirty water ‘on-demand’ so no water needs to be stored. (No mosquitos or larvae or stagnation!)
  • Very low cost and compact filter compared to other filters.
  • WOM MF Filter are similar to the widely used Sawyer 0.1 micron filters, but at half the price.
  • One WOM UF Filter can provide safe water for several families, and is highly cost-effective

Mobilize

ACTION – OK, LET’S DO IT . . .

We will obtain the water filters in bulk and supply these where most needed throughout Cambodia, and next to other SE Asia countries such as Mekong Delta (Vietnam) , Laos, etc.

We will network with like-minded people who also want to save lives and souls.

We will provide the Filter Kits with instructions, as well as good Gospel booklets or verbal message to those who cannot read. Our local partners will remain in touch with filter recipients and offer any further supports.

We will strongly encourage recipients to set up a filter system and then supply several other families with clean water to also bless many more with this model. One Filter can bless many.

We (my wife and I) can only do so much, but we cannot do this without partnership with like-minded people who also want to blessing.

PARTNER WITH US NOW . . .

First and foremost, we strongly request that you pray for us, the needy people, and the Program.

Secondly, please spread the word and tell others about our wonderful program designed to multiply and save Lives and Souls.

These innovative filters are so effective and economical. For less than $10 we can set up a filter that will provide clean, safe water for several families. How good is that?

We do not do fund-raising or soliciting. We simply inform people and let them find it in the goodness of their hearts to want to help make a difference to families and communities in a Program that addresses several needs and saves lives and Souls.

Just One Filter can provide for over 6 families with 4 children each meaning 24 people will no longer have to drink unsafe water and be subject to diseases and deaths. And receive further training.
