Welcome to the WOM Project (Cambodia and Mekong Delta) website. Waterfilter Outreach Ministry Project
The purpose here is to inform visitors of the facts and the plight of the many poor people in these areas who do not have clean drinking and cooking water for themselves, their families, and their communities.
People there having to drink dirty water, or else die, (what choice is that?) is not good enough.
With an average income of around $60 a month, ($2/day) these dear people are not able to help provide themselves with clean, safe water provisions.
As a result, 1 in 5 children under 5 suffer and die from water borne diseases.
UNICEF reports two thirds, (32.9%) of the rural population in Cambodia have no access to clean water. (2012)
However, in sharing these details we do not want to throw our hands up in the air in dismay and think we are unable to do anything about this dreadful situation.
In fact, there are several very simple and low-cost solutions to address these issues.
Some of these low-cost solutions involve sand&gravel water filters, ceramic jar water filters, even filling used plastic bottles with water and exposing these to direct UV sunlight during the day to kill off harmful bacteria. Then there are larger and much more expensive filter systems that provide water for a community. Many Projects are costly to implement and maintain, requiring ongoing funding and costly organization structures and overheads.
However, we have recently sourced an innovative and very economical water filter system using modern technology that uses micro-fine filters, which can be used over and over for many years, and able to filter over 1 million gallons of dirty water and making this safe and clean to drink.
Whilst it is great to address health (life and death) issues and come up with wonderful solutions and provide clean, safe drinking water, there is also the issue of what happens after we help provide clean water? Do we just set them up and walk away or do we have more to offer? The answer is yes. “Freely we have received, freely we give”.
Our goal is to provide an economical water filter to persons who in turn not only provide enough clean water for themselves and their family, but will also be able to provide clean water for several other families to bless them with. This method makes our filter systems an highly effective way to bless many families and even communities. A method that can be easily replicated.
But, is this enough? No. We must also share the love and grace of God, and encourage people to to receive the free Gift of an eternal and a blessed life through Jesus, as He is the only Person who can, and has provided that. And this is where the real miracle of blessing takes place. People will want a water filter to bless many others with free, clean water. How good is that?
